This is a real old video. They show an artists illustration of the Pegasus class Hydrofoils. They did become a reality, stationed in Key West. I might be a tad slow here but for all out speed in the vacuum of space surely it's just a matter of thrust since mass doesn't play a part due to the lack of resistance :S .
In a hundred years or so our rand grand children will be SC's in real life... lucky bastards....
2 major mistakes: first of all the M50 is not the fastest ship in the game! for the moment the best one is the 350R. second one... u will always black out if u keep on flying as on a plane... it is not! use lateral movement ;) See u in the verse! (If u don't black out and crush into the first asteroid!).

The black out needs to be nerfed. In real life you wont even get close to blacking out at the speeds you were traveling at with the technology we have today..

I am still getting notifications from this comment chain, but my comment was deleted.. so we have mastered traveling to other stars and warping space time to go faster than light and we still can't control gravity to neutralize g forces :P . You would think they would at least have something better than that. . I love the M50 in combat. You need some people to tank, and then you can just fly in, and keep firing, and when they turn to you, you just fly away. It's amazing..
this is so, cool gameplay... It seems that the player is no longer confined to the spaceships instead, you can walk around in the hanger and check the nooks and crannies of your craft looking for very detail damage to fix....
i still see a good combat role for this ship: disabler/scout. look at it from this perspective, say you have a combat flight with 3 hornets, 2 avengers and 1 m50. the hornets provide great firepower and do decent in a furball, and the avengers can dart in for bursts of damage, and they completely decimate multi-crew ships like the constellation and redeemer with that massive nose cannon. the m50 could be outfitted with suckerpunch cannons instead of standard cannons and some missiles of course, its role would be to target and disable anyone trying to escape the engagement, which it would excel at seeing as the only thing that can outrun an m50 is another m50. once the shields and engines are down, the slower hornets and avengers can come in for the cleanup. I actually disagree with your assessment somewhat, I believe that the weaker firepower is irrelevant if you opponent can't ever get out of your crosshairs. just keep whittling away the shield until you can get shots straight into the power supply for lethal damage.. you don't have to participate you can wait until release when most things will be sorted out in terms of balance/fairness .
Man, this video really takes me back to watching the reimagining of Battlestar Galactica, of those viper pilots... also Babylon 5, them talking about blacking out in space combat in fighters. Wow. I both love the realism of blacking out, but hate that it can happen to kill me..
Babylon 5 is one of the reasons I'm interested in this game. amazing series and this is very similar except I make my own story and drama. The reason that the Gloc happens on the slower turns and not on the sharp turns is realism. In the slow long turns you are experiencing long sustained Gs on the sharp turn it is just a G spike.... It's alpha... Not pre-alpha. Pre-alpha builds are pretty much unusable to anyone except the dev team. Alpha builds are actually somewhat usable, if not limited and lacking in content. Betas should contain most features of the game, and be the time that you iron out all the major bugs, stress test your network backend (if there is multiplayer/online support), and deal with any final additions or changes before official release..

350r has higher top speed (300) but is not nearly as maneuverable as the M50. The Herald is going to be even faster; but from what I've heard it will be even less maneuverable..
I feel that the Dev's need to start making ships more available. Not just causally letting you try it our every once in a while but allowing you to constantly use another ship. Because then the game will really start to take off. More people will be racing, more people will be having large scale battles in hornets. More people would start playing the game. Of course that means alot of their push for people to buy ships they want to play now will be gone but still i think they should make ships more available so like say a Cutlass Tuesday or a 300 Wednesday that sort of thing..

+Red Crafter - not at all. It is already very difficult to master a single ship, having access to multiple ships on the go will be a terrible thing for new players. Curiosity is the worst enemy here :P.

+Johnnatan Da Cruz I just installed the latest patch myself and went around my hangar for a bit, and to me it seems like they've already fixed the head-jerking movements. So maybe it does have something to do with your laptop... can't quite be sure, but I used to have the same problem on my desktop rig..
The M50 is definitely the QUICKEST ship. It'll fly quick loops around any ship in the game. But the FASTEST title goes to the 350R. Its got about 20 of those speed units on the M50. In a drag race, the 350R wins. For a dogfighter. I'm waiting for the Gladius to test its mettle.
they should introduce trans-human/cyborg characters to the game. imagine if you could buy cybernetic body parts that makes blacking out a minor issue, or parts that make you more lethal in a ground fight like an arm that has a gun inside. just imagine the possibilities....
They do plan on making that an option.(Actually, you will be forced to go cyborg if your character becomes injured enough to warrant it.).
Planned feature to go along with permanent injuries that might mean you'll need to replace limbs..
+Hendlton True that, though it's only the second fastest ship, but is more manoeuvrable than the fastest, so definitely is one of, if not the worst affected by G forces. Of course if you don't like them you can set your ship computer to not stress you so much so you black out (like traction control on your car), but some players turn that safety feature off because they like pushing the boundaries (or think they're good enough they don't need it and having it turned off with their skill level gives them an advantage over soft noobs like me lol). . It isn't that bad, he just didn't know how to fly it.I can get through an entire race without greying out. .
You don't get a hud in 3rd person view, so you can't see cross hairs, ammo count, shield strength, etc. 3rd person gives no advantages..

+Zoltar That is absolutely incorrect. The crowdfunding campaign continues to this day and you can get in immediately. Go to https://robertsspaceindustries.com/, click "Reserve your own ship", then select anything from the "Game Packages" section. The only catch is that you don't automatically get Alpha (i.e. immediate) access anymore. For that, you either have to pay $5 extra for the Arena Commander Pass or be sure to select the one package that still includes it, the "Arena Commander Starter" package (if you decide you don't like the ship that comes with that package, the pledge store has "cross-chassis upgrade" options you can always choose later)..
ok the m50 isnt the fastest in the game, the 350r is. the m50 can become faster than the 350r with up grades only. but we dont know what upgrades are going to be in the game for them quite yet. but by default the m50 isnt the fastest. . This game will NEVER live up to the hype. It will NEVER have all the content and mechanics they have promised. It will also NEVER be out before 2017 or late 2016. I think the reason that the "light pulls" black you out more is because you're sustaining, say 8-10 G's. But when you pull hard, you're doing perhaps 12 G's instantaneously, but then quickly dropping into the, 5-6g range because you've lost a lot of your speed in that turn. .

man that is a fast ship! I have a 300i, have played for several hours on that circuit and perfected just about every corner to shave off as much time as possible and yet he STILL puts down a faster time than my best ON HIS SECOND LAP! In the hands of any experienced pilot the m50 could throw down an incredible time..
+Jennifer W Max speed wise it is faster, but if you have to do a lot of weaving and dodging, the M50 will come out on top. The 350r goes faster in straight lines, the M50 turns and accelerates faster. In terms of combat, the 350r might actually be less effective than the M50, as the 350r is easier to hit and doesn't really have room for that many more or bigger weapons. Additionally, the M50 has two gimbaled gun mounts while the the 350r only has the one in it's nose. The gimbals help a lot to get accurate fire on target while moving fast. Either way they should both do just fine as high speed interceptors. I'm actually planning to modify my M50 for long distance touring. For most other things I have my 315p and 325a.. +Jennifer W The 350R is faster but also heavier and thus harder to control. In the hands of a highly skilled pilot it is the best racer there is but for most people the M50 will actually put down faster lap times. However, you say you want an interceptor, and in that role the 350R is definitely superior. What Christian is saying is not true, the 350R has one less gimbal mount but it is larger anyway and it also has two fixed mount weapons and 2 powerful pylon mounts (for missiles, etc.) so while in a maneuvering role the M50 is slightly better, in a combat role the 350R is far superior. It's also going to be harder to outrun, as a 350R can escape an M50 if desired, but not so easily the other way around. Of course you can go with whatever you want but realize that the M50 is a dedicated racer whereas the 350R still has some capability left over for combat. Unless racing is literally the only thing you're going for, the 350R is better.. The controls seem really weird in this game, the manouverability of the ships looks very unrealistic, it's like they cary no weight at all or smt. They better get that shit sorted...or I'll be sticking with Elite :P.

Predicting what they have "good progress" on by what they have "out" is naive. They fact that they have over 300 developers in about 6 studios means that have a lot of work being done in a very parallel fashion. The hardest part of making a game is setting up the tools and processes for the designers and artist to create content. Much of that is done. The fact that they are close to having 3 systems complete, the economy simulation working, the ship and character pipelines functional, I think they are will on there way to releasing that the game at the end of next year or early the year after. . Hey I'm new to this thing, but I know some physics... and this game is supposed to be LOADED with them. So tell me please, how does the M50 stop so fast. Which is why I made a generalization in saying "there are no g-forces in space". what I truly meant is that the g-force mechanic in star citizen is greatly greatly greatly x 7535839792 exaggerated as those forces would be impossible to perceive even if they technically do exist..

M50 isnt the fastest ship, that would currently belong to the 350r and then in the future, the herald (the mustang is also faster than the m50).

yeah that was posted before ac 1.0, the mustang racers were originally going to be faster than the stock m50, i assume they changed it because of it being a starter ship.

+drakeiddon Which makes sense, what with the mustang being a budget racer, you aren't going to outrun a formula one car in a touring car either. I'm thinking they have a bit of a tendency to power creep with their ship releases and then balance later once people get pissed that their pledge ships don't work as advertised versus newer ones..

Well, that could be because your honda doesn't weigh well over 1 million (probably alot more, im not sure) pounds, and your not driving through water. While cat hulls are much easier to more through the water than single hulls, it still takes one hell of a lot of HP to move it that fast.

There is a mistake here as noted by kimmer 6 : A GE (General Electric)gas turbine does not sit on a 747 engine ( it is one GE make 747 engines),look up GE or RR RB211 forget about the low bypass fan on a 747 its just an engine this one will not have it and it drives a jet unit ( look up jetboat ) The water does not go anywhere near the engine. Wrong. There is no such thing as 747 engine. The old ones used to have engines with thrust of about 50 thousand pouds each. Today's 777 uses engines of more than double of that. Engines are either GE, Pratt & Whitney or Rolls Royce, not 747. The fastest ship would be the huge Russian Ekranoplan. Check it out..

the ekranoplan is not really a ship, because as a ground effect vehicle, it kind of flies more than it floats, lol. but you shouldn't be so fussy about the naming of the engine, whether it's a GE, P&W or RR, if it is used in the 747 then you can still correctly refer to it as a 747 engine. but in this case, I doubt that the engines used in this ship ever came from a 747..
