It would just be better if they had an animal product now and then. From that blog, I learned about Denise Minger, who destroyed T. Colin Campbell's "The China Study" by showing he fudged the numbers and lied about the results. She's a former raw-foods vegan. She still eats mostly raw vegan, but eats animal products. Her book "Death by Food Pyramid" is a great read. One point she makes is that we do eat too much animal muscle, which can be bad, but organs have none of the problems animal skeletal muscle contains, and has a ton more vitamins and mineral. Then there's Paul Jaminet's "Perfect Health Diet". Basically, sometimes people go on a very low-carb diet/ketogenic diet and suffer problems from it. Some people need to eat more carbs because their bodies just need more glucose to function better. Also, few people need to go into ketosis to benefit from a low-carb diet. Most of the benefits from a ketogenic diet are there without the discomfort of ketosis. Basically, I'm still trying out different things to see how it works for me and what diet is best. Everyone is different. Some people really thrive on a vegan diet. I know I can't. With low-carb, I'm stronger and feel better than ever. When I have 6-8 hours worth of class, I just take a tablespoon of coconut oil for breakfast and I feel fine all day. It's pretty awesome. I'm still learning and experimenting though..

They always have an abundance of fresh locally grown produce.. Vegetarian diet is plant based. Dairy & eggs are NOT vegetarian products cause they come from animals. It's a shame that people eating dairy & eggs (lacto-ovo dieters) call themselves ''vegetarians'' which means they misuse the term and create more confusion. Labels are very important cause that's how you know what you are buying and more. I sure don't want to have to deal with little ''surprises'' anymore when buying a product labeled ''vegetarian'' or ''vegetal'' only to notice later that it may contain honey or whey or carmine. Vegetarianism is a plant food diet, while veganism is a way of living that excludes ALL animal use from diet, clothing, entertainment, animal testing, etc. As for longevity, a plant based diet does help a lot and can also make you look 20-30 years younger, though there are way more factors that should be taken into account..

    Sorry to disappoint you, but this is not the whole story. The highest life expectancy for men is on the Italian island Sardinia, where they eat a lot of meat, fatty meat every day. They are far from vegans there. I guess is the no stress life and the community that's most important for longevity. .

A high protein diet increases the chances of protein aggregates to form which is responsible for many neurodegenerative diseases. Look at the mad cows disease. Cows being fed protein from other animals increasing the likelihood, and the amount of prions (which can occur naturally) which then go ahead and induce aggregates in the neurons of the brain leading to premature death. Or look at the amyloid or other protein aggregates that are associated with Alzheimers and what not. I believe to see a link there....

This video is pure propaganda, first off the Okinawan's eat maybe 85-90 percent vegan. They also eat pork at celebrations, so to all you vegans out there, I have no problem with you dietary choices but stop lying that being a vegan is being healthier than omnivores who consume some meat..
    You must also take in to account the epigenetic factors when studying any species lifestyle in a given environment. Our biology adapts to the environment in which we live and if a group of people reside in one area, the longer they remain there the better their biology will adapt to that environment. If they consume the same diet as their ancestors, than they are likely to be healthier. This is why ancient Inuit peoples before the introduction of of on the west diets lived very healthfully on a diet quite opposite to that of the Okinawan's. A species will adapt to it's environment over time, through natural selection and more often epigenetic changes that get passed down between generations. We are all human, however, our ancestors have been divided and adapted to varied environments and diets long enough that a one diet fits all does not necessarily hold true in effectiveness as one would like. I'm sure any diet's based around natural foods are better for all, but the optimal diet is different for different people based on specific ancestry and environmental adaptation..

I guess what this video is trying to discuss is longevity and the factors, including diet, which contribute to that. Older Okinawans are remarkably long lived, and there are far more long-lived Okinawans than there are any other intact group which can be studied in this way. I think what we are all trying to do is learn from them if we can. I don't know of any research done with ancient Inuit peoples. How long did they live when they lived in their traditional ways eating the foods they had adapted to.

Eating 1 can of sardines a day will completely remove the need for b12 supplementation from your diet.
